This Rat IL-8 ELISA kit is intended Laboratory for Research use only and is not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm using a spectrophotometer. In order to measure the concentration of Rat IL-8 in the sample, this Rat IL-8 ELISA Kit includes a set of calibration standards. The calibration standards are assayed at the same time as the samples and allow the operator to produce a standard curve of Optical Density versus Rat IL-8 concentration. The concentration of Rat IL-8 in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve. Note: Interleukin-8 (IL-8), also known as GCP-1, NAP-1, and CXCL8), is an 8-9 kDa chemokine belonging to the α or CXC family that can bind heparin. At the amino acid level, the mature human IL-8 has a homology of 65-70% with pigs and dogs, respectively. IL-8 homologs have been identified in other species early on, such as sheep (Yoshimura and Johnson, 1993), rabbits (Yoshimura and Yuhki, 1991), pigs (Goodman et al., 1992), and dogs (Ishikawa et al., 1993), but the exact definition of the homologous protein of IL-8 in mice and rats has not been established so far. Currently, MIP-2 (CCL8) and KC (CXCL1) are widely considered to be the functional homologs of IL-8 in mice and rats. Therefore, when detecting IL-8 in mouse and rat samples, we usually measure the MIP-2 (CCL8) indicator, which is equivalent to IL-8.
